JUPITER, FL Roger Dean Stadium has been selected Professional Baseball Field of the Year by the Sports Turf Managers Association. The STMA Field of the Year Award, which began in 1992, is awarded to five field types: baseball, football, soccer, softball and complex. For each field type, awards are given in three categories: professional, collegiate and schools/parks.
The selection is determined by a panel of five judges who independently scored each entry based on the playability and appearance of the playing surfaces, innovative solutions employed, effective use of budget, and the development and implementation of a comprehensive, sound agronomic program. Judging the award winners was tough, says George Trivett, CSFM (Certified Sports Field Manager), the board liaison to the STMA Awards Committee. We had many excellent applications with high quality sports fields.
The Field of the Year Award validates the great work of our members, says Kim Heck, CEO of the Sports Turf Managers Association, the sponsoring organization of this award. This honor is one of only a handful that the association awards to recognize quality sports field management. Marshall Jennings experience and expertise is definitely reflected in the award-winning playing conditions of Roger Dean Stadium, says Heck.
Marshall Jennings, Facility Operations Manager, will be recognized and presented this award on January 20th at the 17th Annual STMA Conference and Exhibition in Coronado Springs, FL. SPORTSTURF Magazine will also feature Roger Dean Stadium and the field maintenance program in an upcoming issue.
